Liquid Air Energy Storage

Cryogenic energy storage

Cooling air to -196°C (-320˚F) transforms it into a liquid state, enabling it to be efficiently stored in low pressure vessels with insulation. When subjected to ambient temperatures, the air undergoes rapid re-gasification, expanding 700-fold in volume. This expansion can power a turbine and generate electricity without the need for combustion.

Solar PV System

Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are flexible in their installation, ranging from ground-mounted or freestanding to being fitted on roofs and even used as building materials.

In South Africa, there is growing interest in rooftop PV installations, which can either supplement a building's electrical requirements or be fed back into the grid in certain instances where permitted, and a NERSA approved tariff is specified.

Classification Of Rooftop PV Systems

There are three main classifications of rooftop PV systems based on their connection to the electrical grid:

  1. Grid-Tied / Connected with Reverse Power Blocking:
Property is connected to the national grid, but any surplus energy generated is prevented from being directed back into the grid.
  2. Grid-Tied / Connected:
Electricity generated can be used on-site, and any excess energy can be directed back into the grid, which may be compensated for in some cases.
  3. Off-Grid / Standalone:
PV systems operate independently of the national grid, generating electricity for on-site use, requiring additional components such as charge controllers and battery storage.
